How To Transfer Cryptocurrencies From One Wallet To Another?
Table of Contents
Cryptocurrency transfers are now a routine part of using digital assets—whether you’re sending money to someone else, moving funds between your own wallets, or paying for goods and services. But since blockchain transactions are irreversible, even a small mistake can lead to a loss of funds. In this article, we’ll break down what you need to send crypto, what to consider before pressing the “Send” button, and how to avoid the most common mistakes.
What Do You Need to Send Cryptocurrency?
To ensure your transaction is quick and successful, it's important to consider a few simple but essential things:
1. A cryptocurrency wallet. For regular and quick transfers, a convenient hot wallet and is ideal. It's usually a simple mobile app on your phone or a browser extension that's easy to use on the go. Custodial options would be the best solutions for beginners as they are very convenient to use and are highly secure.
2. The recipient's address. This is a unique digital number (a long string of letters and numbers) where your funds will be sent. There's a crucial rule here: each address is strictly tied to a specific network. Before sending, be sure to double-check the transfer network; otherwise, your coins will simply disappear. For example, you can't send USDT on the Tron network (TRC-20) to an address created on the Ethereum network.
3. Balance, including fees. Top up your balance in advance. It's important to remember that in addition to the transfer amount, you'll also need to pay a network fee for the transaction. For example, on Ethereum, the transfer fee (called "gas") during peak loads can range from a few cents to $1-2. On more modern and faster networks like Solana or Arbitrum, the fee is tiny, usually no more than a couple of cents.
Once everything is ready, you can proceed with the transfer.
How to Transfer Cryptocurrency Between Wallets?
Sending cryptocurrency between wallets may vary slightly depending on the platform, but the basic steps are always the same. Here is a simple guide to help you complete the transfer easily. We've chosen hot wallets as an example, as they're the most common and easiest to transfer from.
-
Step 1. Log in to your wallet. Sign up or register with your chosen provider if you don't have a crypto wallet yet.
-
Step 2. Get the recipient’s address. Ask the recipient to provide their wallet address. Make sure it belongs to the correct network where you are planning to transfer the coins.
-
Step 3. Go to the transfer section in your wallet. Open the overview of the wallet you use and select the “Send” option.
-
Step 4. Enter the recipient’s address. Paste the recipient’s address from the clipboard into the special field or scan the QR code.
-
Step 5. Specify the transfer amount. Decide how much crypto you want to send. At this stage, the wallet will also prompt you to choose a network. Remember: the sender’s network must match the recipient’s network. If you are transferring a large amount, experts strongly recommend first sending a “test transaction” for the minimum possible amount (for example, $1). Only after the recipient confirms receipt of those funds should you send the remaining amount.
-
Step 6. Confirm the transaction. Check all details again: the recipient address, selected network, amount, and estimated fee (it will be calculated automatically once you enter the amount and will be displayed on the screen). If everything is correct, confirm the transaction with your password or 2FA code.
The transfer is complete! Now you only need to wait for the transaction to be confirmed on the network.

How Do You Know the Transaction Is Complete?
When transferring funds within the same platform (for example, from one Cryptomus wallet to another), the transaction is usually processed instantly and often with no fee. However, when sending cryptocurrency to an external wallet, transfer confirmation may take longer depending on network congestion. It's important to choose the optimal time to send cryptocurrency in order to reduce the network fee.
To track the status, you can use blockchain explorers. After sending the hash of the transaction will be displayed in the application. Enter this hash into the explorer’s search bar, and you will see the current status, which may be:
-
Pending (Waiting): the transaction is still in the queue.
-
Success: the funds have been credited.
-
Failed (Error): the transfer did not go through (usually due to insufficient gas or a smart contract error).
